TARGET AUDIENCE FEEDBACK: Bethany, Farhiya, Jhean, Kim

This is the feedback we got from our target audience which was teenager, most of the feedback  was very positive but there were some constructive criticisms which meant that we had to make some slight changes. Overall she was very happy with our final product.

BTS - EDITING DAY 7: Bethany, Farhiya, Jhean, Kim

17/01/17

Today we are continuing fixing the fonts in our title sequence because we were told to make them more visible in our rough cut feedback. We also got a colour grading tutorial, this is when you fix the colours on the shots to make them look brighter or darker. This helped us fix the colours on a couple of our shots.

We also got some feedback from our peers in the rough cut so we made some final changes to some of our shots.

TITLE SEQUENCE NARRATION: Jhean Capitan

We created the narration December and we wanted to keep the narration more 'angsty' which reflects our main character 'Astrid'. The narration keeps a very straight-forward tone towards Astrid's views such as the fact that it would be a 'shame' if the love interest 'Lucy' was straight. This proves the fact that the main character (whilst being open minded) keeps to her own views.

ASTRID
(Sounding monotone, almost bored)

I guess I'm not what people class as... normal. Most teenage girls grow their hair down to their thighs, stalk each other's Instagram accounts, and bat their eyelashes at boys. The biological male fascinates them, and they spend copious amounts of time trying to make their existence known to them.
Not me. I'm completely different.

                  (Sighs)

So, there's this girl. Lucy. And, she's probably straight. Wasted potential. She's confident, gorgeous, outspoken... Anyway, I'm more interested in her than I've ever been interested in any immature boy.

             (Sarcastic)

But, what have I got going for me? Barely anyone wants to be my friend, I have a history of being picked on by the local bored conformists, and I dress like Tim Burton styled me for a film.

       (Sounding reluctant)

Well, there is one girl who's okay. I mean, she buys palm oil skincare products and goes to KFC, but what can you do? She accepts me. Still, though, I'm not too... agreeable with the student body.

(A moment’s pause)

Daisie. A conservative background and self-loathing don't make a good combination. More than anything, I kind of feel sorry for her.
But that doesn't mean I enjoy getting victimised for the way I live my life.

  (Determined, strong)

My name's Astrid. And I'm gonna live it anyway.

BLOGGING HEALTH CHECK 2: Kim Phuong Hoang

I agree with the feedback that Dan has given and I have said in my 'Task 3 - Setting Targets" blog that I will review my blogs every week to update and re-read them, to add anything that I have missed and improve on my analysis and detail.

BTS - EDITING DAY 6: Bethany, Farhiya, Jhean and Kim

13/01/17

We added the clips that we re-shot a couple of weeks ago and we have started to add in the order of our title credits onto our title sequence as well as adding in transitions (fade in and fade out). This provides a smooth transition between credits. We also adjusted the exposure on one of our shots so that it wasn't as bright. We did this by clicking on the 'Effect Controls' and adjusting the clip's brightness there.

We also prepared to show our rough cut to the class so that we have feedback which will then help us to tweak our title sequence according to the feedback.

BTS - EDITING DAY 5: Bethany, Farhiya, Jhean and Kim

10/01/17

We tried to edit our title sequence according to the feedback that Dan had given, but we decided to proceed on with our original title sequence as we believed that it did not appeal to our target audience.

So we continued to fix the timing of narration in order for it to co-ordinate with the action on screen.

BTS - FILMING DAY 5: Farhiya, Jhean, Kim, Bethany

06/01/17

On the fifth day of filming after reviewing our shots we had to do some re - shooting because the shots weren't steady because of the tripod and they just were't good enough.

This was the final stages of our re - shooting because we were doing the final stages of our opening. We had to re - shoot because of the lighting so we made sure we did it on a good day so it looked good.

BLOGGING HEALTH CHECK 2

I agree with what dan said i do need to make sure i post evidence of what i'm doing so i get more marks. I also need to extend on my writing and lengthen my sentences.

Blogging Health Check 2: Bethany Volante

I got the same mark as the first Blogging Health Check, here. I'm happy with how I've mostly maintained my blog to a high standard. For example, completing extension blogging tasks to make sure I have thoroughly covered all areas of work.

Jhean and myself are working on BTS posts now so we can show evidence and explain what's been happening in the creative process.

We have now uploaded our final storyboard!

BLOGGING HEALTH CHECK FEEDBACK 2: Jhean Capitan

Blogging Health Check 2

For this health check, I got the same mark as before (18/20). To improve this mark, I need to be more specific with my filming and editing blog posts; this means that I have to add the techniques and decisions that we did during the filming and editing process.

We've already posted the final draft of the digital storyboard so that has been taken care of. We are still trying to figure out where our Film Distribution Research post is however, if we do not find it, we will re-do it.

 16/12/16

After editing the sequence with the narration and tweaking some things, it was time to pick a song that would suit our title sequence and meet the genre conventions of a teen drama. These conventions were: the intro song was usually sung by a female lead and usually upbeat. As well as this, we had to take into consideration the main character’s personality.

We eventually chose ‘Hold Me Down’ By Halsey and then we were testing the song to see if it went with the opening sequence and then attempting to sync the music with the clips; that is changing clips according to the beat. As well as this, we were editing the narration and cutting it up so that the narration would correspond with the clips. For example, with the mention of a character’s name (namely ‘Lucy’), a shot of the character ‘Lucy’ would show. This is called elliptical editing wherein we grouped together different shots so that emits parts of the story. We made sure that we edited our shots so that it didn't seem so cut up and more seamless.

BTS - EDITING DAY 2: Farhiya, Jhean, Kim, Bethany

 13/12/16

The second editing session was similar to the first wherein the group just pieced together the sequence. However, this time, we added in the narration so that we could see if the clips went well with the narration.

After finishing the entire sequence, we watched through it and edited some clips that didn’t make much sense and tweaking certain clips. For example, we added, warp stabilisation to a clip and adjusted the brightness in some others.

BTS - EDITING DAY 1: Farhiya, Jhean, Kim, Bethany

 09/12/16

This was our very first editing session after gathering all our footage. During this session, we were establishing the sequence of the clips and referring to our shot list and storyboard to properly piece together the sequence.

We did have some difficulties during this session as we were relatively new to editing- problems such as using the wrong tool to edit and how to find our imported clips. However, to combat this, we asked for some help from the media technicians and the staff. This is where we first discovered seamless editing- we edited the sequence so that the entire sequence seems smooth.
